Leather Horse Rugs

'Horse Rugs'  - mixed–media and painting on Arches paper, were conceived in the mid 1990’s during a very impressionable time watching my daughter grow into a passionate young dressage rider.   I would watch her practice, as a mother does, until I began to notice the medieval shapes grazing in the nearby paddocks.   Fascinated, I began to draw the shapes created by the winter rugs of canvas and leather which eluded to the horses within.   The late afternoon winter sunshine added another colourful dimension to the subject matter. These works reflect the moods of that time and the grace and power of the horse.
